Delocator.net, 2005 Delocator.net, Installation View (SFAI), 2005 Delocator.net was a web project originally developed and launched by Finishing School with Vasna Sdoeung. It was launched April 1, 2005 in San Francisco, CA at the San Francisco Art Institute's Walter and McBean Gallery both as a web project and installation / workshop. Delocator.net displayed a comparison between local and corporate businesses. the site specifically highlighted the amount and locations of independently-owned cafés and Starbucks retail stores within a given zip code. The independently-owned cafes were all inputted by web users from around the world. The site also shared the necessary code to build other delocator sites, delocating other corporate businesses. delocator.net was launched with the intention of becoming a web-meme, sprouting many future delocated corporate stores-which it has! note: delocator.net is no longer under the care and ownership of FS and has been modified under the new ownership to include a broader range of businesses. |
