The mission of The Patriot Library (TPL) is to provide access to books, periodicals, and other media that may be considered "dangerous" without questioning the motivation of the user. In protecting the privacy rights and the confidentiality rights of library users, TPL librarians limit the degree to which personally identifiable information is monitored, collected and distributed. TPL keeps no written records that connect users with any information linked to TPL or TPL related resources. TPL users possess the right to openly inquire without having the subject of one's interest examined or scrutinized by others. TPL opposes any governmental action which could lead to the intimidation of the individual user or the user group or have a chilling effect on intellectual freedom.

TPL is a collaborative project between the collective Finishing School and librarian Christy Thomas. This project was first presented in April 2003 at Lucky Tackle, an art gallery in Oakland, CA. TPL is a nomadic project and can take on various spatial configurations. Please email us for more information on how to bring TPL to your area.
